Poet, artist, and performer Nicholas Vachel Lindsay (1879-1931) was born in this modest house next door to the governor’s mansion.

Lindsay gained international fame with his poems, “The Wedding of the Rose and Lotus” distributed to Congress at the Panama-Pacific Exposition and “General William Booth Enters Into Heaven,” a performance piece about the founder of the Salvation Army.

Lindsay artifacts and artwork are displayed in the home.
