Our three
sites
— the
Old State Capitol,
the
Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, and the
Vachel Lindsay Home present three different and
fascinating historical journeys.
Explore Illinois'
mid-nineteenth century statehouse: the house of the
House Divided Speech. Walk in the
footsteps of prairie lawyers in the mid-nineteenth
century merchant building where Abraham Lincoln and
others prominent men rented office space. And visit the magnificently restored National Historic
Landmark that is the birthplace and long-time home of
the "Prairie Troubadour," poet Nicholas Vachel Lindsay.
The Old Capital Historic Sites safeguard and share the
stories of Illinois men and women who shaped the way we
live today.
The mission of the Old Capitol
Historic Sites is to safeguard and share the story of
Illinois to advance learning from our past, demonstrate
its relevance in the present, and provide direction for
the future.
